Chic & easy manicure in 10 minutes!

I LOVE this look! I have done it multiple times and various ways! It’s very simple and does not require much time or effort at all. Great for a last minute nail idea. Another plus: since you are not painting your whole nail, it dries very fast! Have fun and always be creative 🙂

It has been awhile!

I’m alive! I promise! My life has been just like the fashion industry has promised; crazy, stressful, but most of all, rewarding!
The biggest project at school has passed and I can’t wait to tell you all about it and explain step-by-step how I have not had a life outside of the sewing lab. On the bright side, all the hard work has paid off and I completed my draping project. I am very proud of myself and deserve a pat on the back if I do say so myself 🙂
I am thrilled to have the time now to blog! I have had some awesome experiences these past few weeks from Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum to great shopping trips!

Hope all is well!

Saved by the Fashion

Every morning around 7AM I wake up to the sound of the bell, and no not a late bell, the bell at Bayside High School. While Zac Morris and his friends are causing some trouble I am rushing around my dorm getting ready for my day. As I dig through my clothes trying to figure out what to wear I begin to notice the similarities between my wardrobe and Kelly Kapowski’s.

Fashion is forever in a cycle. Let’s open the shopping bags of Lisa Turtle, Kelly Kapowski, and Jessie Spano and compare, shall we? Crop tops, floral prints, body con dresses, and high wasted bottoms. You would think that the girls of Bayside went shopping at Forever 21, H&M, or my closet.

Fashion trends repeat themselves because that is the basis of the world. The world goes around, the sun goes around and fashion trends goes around. But that’s just my opinion.

Actually, top fashion houses use fashion trend forecasting resources help predict trends. Fashion & trend forecasting is the prediction of mood, behavior and buying habits of the consumer at particular time of season. All of this is effected by current events and the state of the economy.  It plays a major role in introductory phase of recurring fashion cycles.

Take a look at Kelly, Lisa, and Jessie and then see some new clothing for sale at Forever 21!

Then 9AM hits and the 5th episode of the morning has begun, I am actually saved by the bell of Saved by the Bell.

Let’s Talk About Stress, Baby.

Sixty-one days until I graduate from College.

In the past seventeen years of my life I have been a student. In the past four years I have worked my butt off for a bachelor’s and associates degree, but these next few months are the ones that will count the most because after May 22 my life is up to me.

So what’s next? More portfolios, drawing, sewing, interviews, resumes, cover letters, job hunts, and most importantly figuring out where I am going to live. Talk about STRESS.

During my college experience I have been told that when I apply for jobs I should fill out one hundred applications to try to get one, yes I said one, job interview. There are over 20,000 fashion students graduating across the nation in 2014, but there are not 20,000 jobs.

I consider myself one of the lucky ones because of my bring on the rejection attitude. The more I hear “no”, the closer I am to hearing “yes”. My Momma taught me young that there will always be someone out there better than you, even if you win the gold medal. The bright side to that; you will always be better than someone else.

So, to my fellow graduates; do not get discouraged if at first you don’t succeed. STAY POSITIVE! Do not burn bridges from hearing rejection. Your journey of life, in the fashion world or not, is up to you. Be as prepared as you can be; be confident, and never let your ego get in the way. Depend on you and yourself alone to fight your battles, because honey, this is the real world and in the real world we don’t tag team.

EB-ology- Keep your Head and Confidence like your Heels; High! Call me Rafiki, but take that “no” as a “this isn’t your time because better things are coming your way”. Easier said than done, but it’s also easier to be confident than cocky.

Your Spring 2014 Fashion Shopping Guide

Spring Break is just around the corner and if you are like me you will be waiting until last minute to do your vacation shopping. No, I’m not talking bikinis and sunscreen. I’m talking about the fashion trends that will be carried into the rest of the Spring/Summer 2014 seasons, the fashion trends you can’t be without.

#1- The Shift Dress

There is going to be major 60s and 70s influence this season. The simple shape of the shift dress allows the focus to center on other details, prints and patterns.

#2- Patterned Pants

Seen in many collections, patterned pants are seen again as a popular item for Spring 14. Along with the prints and patterns defining the trend, silhouettes are a key factor this season. Peg leg, skinny, wide leg, cropped and pajama styles will offer a style suitable for everyone.

#3- The Peplum

Now I know what you’re thinking, ‘Emily, this is not a new trend!’, but just give me a minute to explain. A few seasons ago the peplum came back on the runway and you should expect to see it for a few more. The peplum can be altered and designed to fit into many trends. For example, it can be soft with ruffles, more structured and edgy, or pleated and color blocked. Halter and zip-front peplums will be flying off the shelves this spring and summer!

#4- The Boxy Top

The boxy top this season covers a variety of trends and looks from retro to futuristic looks. What makes it different from past season are the broad and exaggerated shoulders with wide sleeves. As for fabrics and colors, boxy tops will include sheer inserts, epaulettes and color blocking.

#5- Pencil Skirt

The pencil skirt can be worn for more than just the office, ladies! It is an all-time favorite of mine as well! It offers a great hourglass silhouette and favored with a high classic waist. The pencil skirt can have side slits and other construction details to update the style and look fresh.

Now these are just a few of the spring/summer 2014 fashion trends! So shop around and figure out what you see popping up in multiple stores and what is in the front on display. Fashion is like science, you have to do your research to get it right. Have fun and look fabulous on your spring break vacations 🙂

EB-ology- Don’t let your Bloat Control You. This ‘ology’ comes straight from my personal experiences and heart. Look through my closet and you will see a peplum top in about every color and style imaginable. But why the obsession? As a gal with a lot of food sensitivities, peplums are my go to when it comes to ‘the bloat’. We all get it and it can really ruin a good mood, but don’t let it ruin your outfit! The bodice of the peplum is form fitting, but right after it hits the bottom of your ribcage/belly button area the peplum begins and just like magic… WHALAH!! Your bloat has disappeared. Don’t worry, it will just be our little secret 😉

L’Wren Scott

A few hours ago, here in Manhattan, L’Wren Scott (Mick Jagger’s girlfriend, designer and project runway star) was found dead in her chic apartment. The 49 year old was hanging from a scarf and it was clearly claimed as suicide with no signs of foul play.
I don’t want to bum anyone out with this post, but it is kind of an eye opener. A beautiful 6-foot-3 successful women who seemed to have everything must not have been as happy as she seemed to be.
Iceberg theory: Majority of an iceberg is under the water and we only see the small top, so that is what we judge the rest of it by. We never really know what people are going through in private and how they deal with their problems.
Be thankful today and pray for L’Wren Scott.

St. Pattys Day Nails!

As a gal who doesn’t typically wear green, I always paint my nails green for St. Patricks Day so no one thinks twice about pinching me! Anyway I wanted to share some nail art ideas and step-by-steps of a few of them. I’m actually very anti shamrock, pots of gold, ect. I’m not five or an elementary school teacher, I do not need little leprechauns on my person let alone my nails! Well here you go.. I hope you enjoy! All nails and the nail wheel are mine that I painted yesterday 🙂

The Facial Contouring Craze!

After Kim Kardashian posted a picture on her Instagram of her in the middle of getting her make up done, facial contouring started trending instantly. Pro Kardashian or not, you have to agree that her makeup and face look flawless. I’ve always been one to contour my cheek bone every once and a while with a darker powder than that of my skin tone, but I have never thought about applying concealer all over my face. I decided to do some drug store shopping and spent under $15 on E.L.F and NYX cosmetics.

It was pretty simple to do, but is it worth the results? I put the light yellowish concealer under my eyes, up the center of my nose, and on my chin. Next,  I applied a darker concealer on the top of my forehead, jawline, cheekbones, and nose. After I looked like I was about to perform a rain dance around a fire I took a disposable makeup sponge and started blending. I focused on the lighter areas first and then blended the darker areas up and out. The point of this is to make sure you don’t have any harsh lines on your face. It’s also important to make sure you have the dark areas blended into your hair line and under your chin/jaw until it disappears on your neck. Finally, I took a brush with some translucent setting powder and ta-da! I am contoured and highlighted! I went one step further and did my everyday brow routine!

Pros: It definitely made my skin look smooth, pores look almost invisible, and my facial features more defined. It also added a natural glow to my face.

Cons: If I did this as an everyday thing it would add about 7 more minutes to my morning routine and I’d rather be sleeping. Also, I have very sensitive and acne prone skin and with all this concealer I feel like my skin can hardly breath!

Overall: I would definitely try this the next night I go out because it is a pretty look, but the work involved might not be worth doing every morning.

EB-ology #6: Bacteria on your face is a big mistake! I am very against the use of makeup brushes unless you are willing to wash them almost every other day. Think about what ruins your skin and clogs your pore, bacteria. Whenever you rub that brush around your face you are only helping spread that around and by not washing it everyday, you’re just reapplying that gunk from the day before! YUCK! Invest in a pack of small cosmetics sponges for a month, pat on your make-up gently, and see if you see a difference!
