OOTD and some EB-ology!

What is more girly than a pair of hot pink patent leather heels? How about matching those heels up with a hot pink blazer, throw on my favorite animal print top, add some bling and BAM there’s my outfit today πŸ™‚

It’s Friday and let’s face it, most of us are running on our last tank of carb-free fashion fuel. Now this may not be a scientific fact, but I have found a direct connection between how one acts and how one dresses. Like all other theories there will be exceptions, but trust me on this one, alright? I could have just pulled on a pair of leggings and a crew neck sweatshirt, but since that is not very different from what I wear to bed, I decided to spice up my Friday wardrobe and all before my class at 9am!

Need some advice, tips, and tricks on fashion, makeup, life, and being a women?Β  Check out my EB-ology page that will be continuously updated.

EB-ology #1: When you dress like you’re tired, you’re going to be tired.Yes, fashion should be comfort, but life is not a pajama party. Life should be your runway. So when you’re debating between look chic or wearing the sweats, go for the more stylish choice. Think about it.. no story about a bad day ever started with, “I wore this fabulous outfit today…”.

EB-ology #2: When in doubt, shoulders back, chest out. No, this one isn’t to show off your girls. Good posture increases oxygen flow which will make you feel more alert and will automatically make your outfit look much better. Clothes were made to be displayed well on hangers (that’s why models are so thin), not Kwazimoto. Come on girl, stand up straight! One more fun fact about good posture… you burn more calories with good posture as opposed to slouching.

EB-ology #3: Would Daddy say “no” and not let you go? If you wouldn’t want your Dad or Mom to see how you look, you should probably second guess your outfit choice. This rule applies more to night fashion, hopefully. Anyway, never let your outfit give a negative impression because you never know who is around you. Maybe the guy or gal at the bar is the same person who will be interviewing you in a few days. I’m not saying never show a little skin and never wear tight clothing. Seriously, as a girl with a tiny waist and curvy hips I am all for the body-con dress, but you have to respect yourself!

EB-ology #4: If your friends look lame, it’s you to blame. This can also be applied to the basic rules of feminism. Never let your girls go out looking like a mess, because even if you look absolutely fabulous no one is going to notice because of the natural disaster surrounding you. When your BFF asks you, “Do I look good?” BE HONEST! Before you answer her pause and ask yourself, ‘would I go out in that outfit?’. If she doesn’t look good just simply tell her no. You would expect her to do the same, right?

EB-ology #5: NEVER DWI and ALWAYS have a DD!Β This one is for those days when pre-gaming starts way before it should. Never DRESS WHILE INTOXICATED, unless you have a DESIGNATED DRESSER! Remember, alcohol inhibits good judgement. If you have no choice but to dress yourself while being a little tipsy, make sure you get 3 outfit approvals. It’s 2014 people, send a few picture messages, skype or facetime for a minute, or knock on your neighbors door. Not only will you be fashion saved for the night, but you will also be giving a few people a reason to chuckle. Girl, we have all been there. Don’t be embarrassed for what you are wearing!

Ceci Johnson- A True Inspiration!

I just had the honor to attend a lecture and Q&A by Ceci Johnson at my school, FIT!

Screen Shot 2014-03-10 at 6.38.09 PM

Ceci Johnson is the founder of Ceci New York. She is an expert in luxury invitation designs, branding, and visual styling. Ceci started her company ten years ago and since then she is the β€œgo-to” girl among an international high-profile clientele, including royalty, A-list celebrities, the president, and leading luxury brands. Like myself, Ceci has been fashion obsessed and dedicated to a lifetime pursuit of glamorous individual style her whole life. She is a wife, daughter, and new mother who still has time to follow her dreams and look completely gorgeous, fabulous and most importantly- happy!

What led to me add Ceci on my personal list of amazing and inspirational woman was not just the fact that she created a business and company I dream of working for, but she was also friendly, sincere, and so down to earth. Her work ethic and passion combined is what drove her to be so successful and I applaud her for that! I’m sure that everyone else in the audience could agree that tonight you could feel Ceci’s passion as she told stories about her business. When asked questions about how she became so successful, she was very honest explaining that she wouldn’t be so successful if this wasn’t what she loved to do. She never short changes herself and always stands up for what she believes in. She sets very high stands and expects them to be met and that is another reason why she is so successful.

As a fashion major and event planning minor, I was SO into what she was saying from the moment she started speaking. I have to share a few words of advice Ceci shared tonight:

“Inspiration is all around you, but as a designer you must also define the target, whether its a client or a brand.”

“In a world of clunky binders and template invitations I saw a niche for a truly couture design. and I went for it!”

“Don’t give your work away for free. Nothing – and I mean nothing – says commitment like a deposit and signed contract.”

Something I am going to have to paraphrase, was her answer to the question, “What was the moment when you were like, ‘wow, I made it’?” She thought for a second and then explained that when she started out she wanted to get involved in a little event, and she did! When it was over she was surprised how easy it was, so she set her goals higher and higher. The fact that she keeps setting new goals allows for amazing confident boosting moments when she reaches them! How cool is that?!

Attending FIT was always a goal of mine, and I reached it. This is only the beginning, because I will never stop setting new goals!

After Ceci’s words of wisdom tonight I felt increasingly excited about my future and a lot less scared. I came to the realization that throughout my whole life I have had passion and love for being creative, not only in fashion. I put creativity into everything that I do. From baking giant cupcakes, to redecorating my house without my mother’s permission. I started my own small line of jewelery. I created bracelets, earrings, embellished hats, and hair accessories because I loved doing it. I guess I never really realized how awesome that was because I was just doing because it came natural to me. I will paint mine and my friend’s nails crazy prints and designs, because, again it’s something that makes me happy. I could go on and on explaining all the ways I have been creative my whole life, but it’s really more than that. Finding what you want to do, to be your career, is finding what truly makes you happy. It has to be a part of you. You could have your life up in jumbles and everything could be falling apart, but when you have your creativity, that’s forever; My creativity, and my passion for fashion, will never disappoint me or let me down.

Ceci Johnson, you and your kind words are seriously a blessing and I thank you SO SO much for sharing your story!

Gluten Free, Delicious, and Addictive

Would you like a gluten free dessert? Chances are you said no and made the same face I made when I saw Anna Kendrick’s dress at the Oscars. I’m here to inform you about the new and highly addictive gluten free chocolate chip cookie brand my roommate and I discovered a few days ago!
They are everything a delicious chocolate chip cookie should be! Soft, chewy, moist, and they are bite size! Not to mention, they have zero trans fat!
The brand is: WOW (without wheat) and I would love to give one of these to my dad, have him eat it and then tell him it was gluten free! He wouldn’t believe me!
I bought mine, for about $5, at a local deli near 27th street and 8th avenue after a girls happy hour night out. I don’t know if it was the mix of vodka and fresh gossip flowing through my veins, but something inside me thought it was necessary to eat about ten of these bad boys in one night. Needless to say, I was a happy camper!
If I didn’t have to be gluten free I would still devourer these sweet morsels on the reg!
Can’t wait to try their other flavor: snicker doodle, lemon, peanut butter, and ginger molasses!

Elijah Berzy

Elijah Berzy, that would be my name Travoltafied!

By now you are probably very aware what I am talking about. I realize it’s been about a week since since all the tongue tangled tomfoolery began, but it is still funny! Especially with apps out to Travoltafy your name, comedians doing their own spin on the mess-up, and just watching Mr. Travolta botch up Idina Menzel’s name; it will never not be funny!

All I keep thinking is, how?! Between the pre-show run through, having her name right in front of you, being an actor, and the fact that it was the infamous Idina Menzel… how could someone mess up her name? It’s not like she’s a nobody. She was in a film that received two oscars that night! That’s two more than Leonardo DiCaprio and I have combined!

I guess we’ll never know what was on Travolta’s mind that night, so all we can do is get a good chuckle out of it! Let me help you with that…

Click HERE to Travoltafy your name! ( at the bottom of that page you can also watch the video of him butchering her name)

Also, this is a video of my FAVORITE comedian impression!

The NYC Mark-Up

Lemme’ have a quick rant.

It’s not a surprise that just about everything in NYC is more expensive that what’s sold in my home sweet hometown. Produce, clothing, bath supplies, home goods, food, ect… it’s all pretty pricey in the Big Apple. Don’t get me started about drinks at the bars/clubs, though. That might a whole other post for another day. Anyway, being a girl that doesn’t carry cash on my person often (because plastic is fantastic), finding 2 dollars in my purse earlier put only one thought in my head: Roll Up The Rim To Win! Hello, Tim Hortons! I have felt pretty left out seeing all the social media lately about my friends and their daily wins. So, I walked five blocks just to order my $1.89 large coffee with one cream and two sugars. I just wish someone would have gotten a picture of my face when the woman told me $2.58. Really, Tim Hortons? You let me down in more than one way; I also got a losing cup.

Today’s lesson: You can’t do anything with 2 dollars in NYC that wont leave you with food poisoning, still hungry, or stranded.

Fashion Major Problems: Early AM Swatching

20140307-105513.jpg

The life of a fashion design major in NYC isn’t as glamorous as people would expect it to be. It’s a lot of late nights at the sewing lab, daily runs to the art stores, and very early mornings to go swatching. By Thursday, my class and I are borderline delusional, hardly making any sense, non stop giggling, and looking like we have been up for days (thank the lord for under eye concealer!).

After my 5ish hours of sleep last night, I woke up early enough to go to a fabric store, 10 blocks away, to go collect swatches to use in my portfolio. It would seem logical to just go later in the day and sleep an extra few hours, but of course my favorite fabric store only has swatching hours from 8am to 9am. A fashion major has to do what a fashion major has to do.

In case you are still confused about what “swatching is”… let me fill you in. When designing and illustrating clothing you have to take in to mind how heavy the fabric will be, which way the grain will go, how the fabric will look from different views, the texture, and so on… In order to have accurate illustrations, getting samples of your desired fabric, whether woven or knit, is necessary. The samples are generally 5 inches long and about 3 inches wide. These swatches will also be cut apart and added into a fashion portfolio.

Examples… (ABOVE) Fabric swatches can be displayed in a portfolio anyway the designer desires! I like to switch it up. Sometimes I place them randomly in a scrapebooky sort of way, or sometimes I cut them into perfect squares and place them in a pattern. (BELOW) I had a swatch of a lightweight woven floral print fabric a few years back and had to illustrate and render what it would look like as a scarf!Β (remind you, this was a few years ago and is also a picture taken of the project)

As annoying as it was to wake up earlier than usual it was also completely worth it. Imagine a kid in a candy store, that’s me in a fabric store. I’m also embarrassed to say I have a ton of fun looking at all the fabric and touching it all. Well, I guess that’s just another one to add to my list of “Fashion Major Problems”.

(The picture fabric all the way at the top is what I got today!)
